Mary Catherine Fleming

Mary Catherine “Cathy” Fleming (née Buck) was peacefully called home to our Lord in her sleep on July 22, 2026. Though her passing came as a shock to all who loved her, her family finds comfort in God’s promises and peace in knowing she has been welcomed into His loving embrace.

Cathy was the devoted mother of her daughter, Jessica E. Parker (Fleming), and son-in-law, Bradley Parker, and of her son, Grant C. Fleming; the loving grandmother of Isabella Grace “Bella” Parker and cherished step-grandmother of Mason Parker; beloved daughter of the late Walter and Marguerite Buck; dear sister of James A. Buck and his wife, Stephanie; and beloved niece and goddaughter of Kathleen “Kassy” Lott.

For more than thirty-five years, Cathy dedicated her career to the mental health field, where she became a trusted advocate for countless individuals and families during some of life’s most difficult moments. To her, it was never simply a profession—it was a calling. She believed every person deserved dignity, compassion, and hope. Her sharp mind, calm presence, unwavering patience, and genuine concern for others earned the respect of colleagues and left a lasting impression on the many lives she touched. Long after her retirement, the compassion she shared and the lives she changed remain a testament to the difference one person can make.

Yet if you asked Cathy what mattered most, her answer would never have been her career.

Her greatest joy, deepest purpose, and proudest accomplishment was always her family.

Jessica and Grant were the center of Cathy’s world. Being their mother was the privilege she treasured most, and there was nothing she would not do for them. She was their fiercest protector, biggest supporter, wisest counselor, and the first person they turned to whenever life became difficult. No matter the circumstance, Mom was there—ready to offer guidance, reassurance, encouragement, or simply a safe place to land. She celebrated every success as though it were her own and carried every burden alongside them, reminding them they never had to face life’s challenges alone. Even as they grew into adulthood, she never stopped being “Mom”—always ready to come to the rescue whenever she was needed. Through both her words and her example, she taught them to greet each day with gratitude, persevere with faith and courage, remember that “Kids always come first,” and above all else, “Always Be Gracious.” Those were not simply words she spoke—they became the foundation upon which her family continues to build their lives.

Becoming “Grandmom” was one of the greatest blessings of Cathy’s life. Bella filled her heart with a joy that only a granddaughter could bring, and she treasured every opportunity to watch her grow. Whether reading books, celebrating birthdays, playing games, sharing hugs, or simply spending time together, Cathy understood that life’s greatest treasures were often found in its simplest moments. She delighted in every milestone, every laugh, and every memory they created together. Bella brought out a special light in her, and there was nothing she loved more than seeing the world through her granddaughter’s eyes. She also welcomed Mason with open arms, embracing him as family from the very beginning and loving him with the same warmth, encouragement, and unwavering support that she so freely gave to everyone she loved.

Those fortunate enough to know Cathy understood that she was often the steady presence others leaned on. She had a remarkable way of bringing light into every room she entered and into the lives of those around her. Whether family, friend, coworker, or stranger, Cathy instinctively stepped in wherever she was needed. She listened without judgment, encouraged without hesitation, and never missed an opportunity to lift someone else up. She had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and genuinely cared for. Time and time again, she became the person others turned to during life’s most difficult moments, offering hope when it seemed distant and strength when it was hardest to find. Her warmth, generosity, steadfast faith, and unwavering willingness to come to the rescue left an imprint on countless hearts. Though she may never have fully realized the extraordinary impact she had on those around her, those who knew her will carry the light she brought into their lives forever.

Though our hearts are broken by losing her far sooner than we ever imagined, we are immeasurably grateful for the gift of having loved her and been loved by her. Cathy leaves behind far more than cherished memories—she leaves behind a family strengthened by her example, friends encouraged by her kindness, and countless lives forever changed by her compassion. She spent more than thirty-five years helping people heal and a lifetime showing others how to love, how to serve, and how to live with grace. While she will be deeply missed every day, her example will continue to guide her family, inspire her friends, and live on in all those fortunate enough to have known her.
