I think there's something to be said when this many former employees of Mike's had such beautiful words and memories to share. You can tell he meant a lot to all of us at the BCOCSE. I only learned of his passing tonight after bumping into another old colleague and was very saddened to hear. He was my supervisor at my very first job out of college and always was so kind to me and made me feel comfortable, I really enjoyed talking with him and getting to know him. He spoke of his family and wife Mary Kay so often and so fondly, I know he is profoundly missed. He was a special person and I've always appreciated having him as a leader in my first office job. God bless his family. He will always be remembered! He was so fun to talk to. 

Having not heard and thus unable to make the funeral, all of the beautiful photos shared here were wonderful to see. I had never seen a photo of mike in his very young years- so fun to see those photos. Thanks for sharing these photos, I feel like I learned even a bit more about his full and happy life and family.

Mary Kay;  Miss Mike like I know you do. Been tough thinking about him. Sorry was not at viewing but under quarantine and covid is a real danger and at end of day not good with those things. FINAL best memory of Mike was him and I watching the great documentary "The Salesman" in Cape Cod laughing getting drunk and spilling Guiness all over my sister's white $10K rug. The memories continue to flow in my brain.

I had the pleasure of working with Mike at the Baltimore County Office of Child Support.   He always had a smile on his face and a great joke to tell.  He will be greatly missed.  Prayers to his family. 🙏❤️

I worked with Mike from 2003 until his retirement. I could talk with him any day in his office (which was always open) and discuss anything.  Mike was funny (to almost be a Robin Williams comparable comic) a confidante (like that old familiar uncle, a real "people person") and a loving father/ husband who will truly be missed.  I remember his pride of being a great father to both a son-daughter and a great husband.  After looking through the family photos posted on this site it reminded me how much he enjoyed and relished a very supportive family at the crucial milestones (graduations, anniversaries, vacations, births).  
Although at times work could be busy, he was very open to chatting at lunch and sharing stories from his past days as a John Carrol HS student to talking about the canoe, and bagpipers, and of course the family that he loves.   I remember him marching in the parade on main street Bel Air proudly wearing his kilt with the piper band.

I have known Mike Story for over fifty years.  It is hard to believe that time has passed so quickly.  Mike was truly one of a kind.  He was the only friend I had that could make me laugh uncontrollably and he did so many times.  He could tell a story like no one else.
 I will  never forget all the adventures we had in high school and beyond.  Thinking of him will always bring a smile to my face.  Mike once accompanied me on a duck hunting outing on the Susquehanna Flats.  As we were returning to the marina in the boat, Mike moved to the front of the boat to prepare the bow line and promptly slipped off the bow and plunged into the frigid water! He and I were laughing so hard the tears were freezing on my face as I tried to pull him back into the boat.  Hilarity ensued!
As Mike would say I will have "a couple, three  chilly's"  in his memory.

I had the pleasure of working with Mike, at the Baltimore County Office of Child Support for over 15 years. Mike was such a nice Assistant Director and a kind person.  I could go into his office to talk about anything and I would always leave laughing. Mike had a wonderful sense of Humor.

I worked with Mike for 14 yrs at  Child  Support , he was a great guy .  My deepest sympathy and prayers to you Mary Kay  , David and Rachel . 

For almost 18 years I had the privilege and pleasure of working with Mike in the  Baltimore Office of Child Support Enforcement.  Day in and day out Mike did his best to help countless parents obtain child support.  It was a complicated, somewhat thankless, and nearly impossible job but Mike always did it in a competent, pleasant and professional manner.
Like many others, I was fortunate to have Mike as a friend.  He was someone with whom I frequently had lunch, drank a coffee or took a short break from work.  Mike would share stories of sailing on the Bay, taking out his canoe on calmer waters, growing up, and would tell of the early beginnings of the child support program and some of the more humorous situations he encountered over his many years.
In telling a story Mike would often become animated and he would add dialogue and accents for all the parties.
What I will remember best and miss the most is Mike's love of his family.  Mike's eyes lit up and his voice was filled with excitement whenever he was with Mary Kay.  Mike proudly told me about Dave and Rachel growing up, becoming adults, and having families of their own.  Mike was a patient and engaged listener when it came to hearing about other families.  
I have not socialized much in the past year and I looked forward to meeting with Mike when it was safe to do so.  I am sorry to miss that meeting; I will cherish the many memories I have of him.

Reading all of the memorials make me even sadder.  Michael touched so many lives. He was way to young to pass. 
I always enjoyed our occasional conversations. I loved his dry sense of humor.

Mr. Story was one of the kindest, most charming, and funniest people I've ever had the privilege of knowing and spending time with. Whenever I'd visit the Story residence, he always made me feel at home. Always curious. Always willing to embrace the absurd. Always (seemingly) happy to see me and engage with my nonsense. If I wasn't already a mostly-grown adult at the time, I may have petitioned for adoption.

I will always remember him and how he made me feel...and continue to try to inspire others with that same feeling. And of course, I will always remember that half shirt that one time.

Thank you for all you gave us, Mr. Story. May you rest in peace and may your family find peace in your memories together.

Michael and I met in June 1971. We were lifeguards together at Fallston Community Swim Club. He was the new guy. He rode along with me to get some pool chemicals and we became thee closest of friends. I will spare you all the details but let me just say we enjoyed life heartily for the next half dozen years. I like to take credit for introducing Mike and Meekay, although I may be embellishing a bit!!  Regardless,  I have never had a better friend in my life than M.Scott Story. He was like the brother I never had. He was my best man and.the godfather of my first born.  Life gets busy and as our families grew we put our youth aside and went in our own directions. Luckily,we were able to hang out together a bit a.few years back. It was great!!!  Hey Horn, I love you and I will remember our glory days forever.  ... and I know you will too.

I had the privilege to work with Mike Story at Baltimore County Child Support until my retirement in 2015. Mike graciously gave me the official verification that I was the only one in our office selected for early retirement. He was a kind and caring leader. As Asst Director, he was always available to discuss any issue. He was also fun-loving and known to tell a good joke. He loved his family and always spoke well of them especially his wife. He sought to inspire and make you feel special. What a Gentleman. I will never forget his smile. Dear Mike, Thank You for everything You did for me and countless others and for showing us what true Leadership was all about. To his wife and family, may the love  he shared with you never go away. To Mrs. Story and family. Please know that my prayers are with you all. As so many others I worked with Mike for several years up to his retirement. He always had a kind word and a smile to go along. He was never too busy to listen to our complaints and always gave a message of reasoning no matter what the situation. His smile and his wholesome jokes I'm sure will be missed. I worked with Mike for 5 years when I was a Child Support Officer. Mike was a great boss, but also a great friend. He always made light of every situation and was a great person. God Bless you Mike and your family, you will be missed.

I worked with Mike for over 25 years. We worked closely together when I first started at The Baltimore County Circuit Court. He made me feel welcomed from the very first day. I have fond memories of all those years. We worked and socialized together and I not only considered him a colleague but a friend. I had not seen Mike over the last year due to the pandemic, but I was fortunate enough to have lunch with him and a group of former co- workers several times since he and I retired. Mary Kay, words are hard to come by to express my profound sorrow over Mike's sudden passing. May the comfort of your family and friends bring you, David and Rachel peace in this most difficult time.

I am so very sorry and shocked to hear of the passing of Mike.  He was my boss at Child Support Enforcement for over 9 years.  Mike also was a good friend.  I will miss him.

I met Mike in the 1980s when I was a Hearing Examiner, and later Chief of the Appeals Unit, of the State Child Support Enforcement Administration. At the time, Mike was with the Baltimore City Bureau of Support Enforcement. Although I took on a new job and had little contact with Mike in more than two decades, Mike always stood out to me as the epitome of sincerity, professionalism, civility, and kindness. Over the years, when I would encounter people who fell short of the standards Mike set, I would specifically think of Mike and kind people like him and wonder why more people could not emulate his example.  May Mike’s family and friends find comfort in their memories of him.

I worked with Mike while he was the Assistant Director of the Baltimore County Office of Child Support. He always had an open door policy where no question was too small. He led in a humble and nurturing way. His faith and love of family was evident. His kind spirit and his quick wit will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.

My best buddy. Truly a class man. Haven't seen Mike in few years when he was thoughtful enough to come to my son's college cross country meet but have talked to him weekly since on phone. Remember our Vegas , Cape Cod and Florida  trips drinking  being silly and laughing alot about life great times .  Will miss our weekly calls Miguel this really hits hard but rest easy my friend 💔  you left a beautiful adoring wife and 2 great kids who you loved and always talked about on our calls. Will drink a beer in your honor in Vegas this year.
