Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Diane Sullivan (née Bavett); his daughter, Angela Kachura (husband Joshua); his grandsons, Kellan Kachura, Hudson Kachura, and Logan Kachura; his brother, Craig Sullivan (wife Debbie); his sister-in-law, Linda Bavett-Kraft (husband Bob); his brother-in-law, Steven Bavett; his nephews, David Myers (wife Stephanie) and Matthew Bavett; his niece, Rachelle Pickens; and his lifelong friends, Frank and Gloria Schlosser. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sullivan and Eleanor Ruth Sullivan (née Ayresman); his son, Daniel Sullivan; and his brother-in-law, Joseph Bavett, Jr.
Mike was a simple man in the very best sense of the word. He found his greatest joy in taking care of the people he loved and being a steady provider for his family.
A proud graduate of Perry Hall High School’s Class of 1972, Mike was a talented left-handed pitcher for the school’s baseball team and remained a lifelong sports fan throughout the years.
After high school, Mike began working at Knells BP Service Station while attending evening classes at Lincoln Technical Institute, where he earned his Automotive Mechanic certification. It was there, at the gas station in 1973, that he met the love of his life, Diane, when she pulled in for gas and directions. In true Mike fashion, he not only filled her tank, but checked her oil, cleaned her windshield, and sent her on her way with a smiley face drinking glass — the beginning of a lifelong love story. Mike and Diane recently celebrated 51 wonderful years of marriage together.
Mike was a true jack-of-all-trades who could fix just about anything and genuinely enjoyed helping others do the same. After developing his machinist skills through positions with manufacturing companies including Noxell/Procter & Gamble, he built a long and respected career maintaining production lines and eventually serving as a Maintenance Supervisor. In 2004, he earned his home improvement license and founded Sully’s Home Improvement Services, where his hard work, craftsmanship, and willingness to lend a hand became well known throughout the community.
Mike was extremely organized and neat, always keeping everything in its place, whether it was a job site, his home, or his garage — one of his favorite places to spend time. He found happiness in working with his hands, figuring things out, and helping others do the same. He built an addition onto his family’s former beach house in Delaware, a project that reflected both his skill and his love for creating spaces where family could gather together.
Known for giving thoughtful advice and guidance, Mike was a mentor to many. He had a sharp mind for finances, a practical outlook on life, and a calm, steady way of helping people navigate challenges.
Outside of work, Mike loved life’s simple pleasures. He loved grilling, steaming crabs, drinking a cold beer, and spending time with family and friends. He was a passionate music enthusiast with an incredible record collection and an encyclopedic knowledge of music — able to name almost any song, album, and the year it was released. His favorites included The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, and The Eagles.
Mike also loved sports, especially cheering on the Orioles and Ravens, and he took great pride in his treasured 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, which he lovingly restored from the ground up and continued to work on whenever he could.
Above all else, Mike loved being a husband, father, and Dad-G. Nothing brought him more pride than his family and the role he played in their lives. His quiet strength, generosity, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
