Patricia Marie Young (nee Szegda), age 83, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026 at UCMC due to complications from pneumonia and scoliosis. She was surrounded by her loving family when God called her home.
Patricia was the daughter of the late Nicholas Szegda, and Mary Szegda (nee Curay).
Welcoming her at the pearly gates of heaven was the love of her life, her late husband of 51 years, David F. Young. Not a day went by that she did not miss him, and it gives the family much peace knowing that they are together again.
Patricia is survived by her four children: Jacqueline Hedrick (Barry), Frederick Young (Cheryl), Donna Philip (John), and Julianne Schubert (Kenny). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Justin Hedrick (Rachel), Rachel Masson (Matt), Ashley Forbes (Colin), Frederick Young (Jasmine), Jacob Schubert, Ryan Schubert, Zachary Schubert, John Philip, Alicia Philip, and great grand-daughters: Cecilia, Stevie, Adelaide, Wynn, Lucy, and baby girl Masson due in June. Surviving her also is her sister, Kathy Ewell (Tim), brother, Nicholas Szegda, and sisters-in-law, Dolores Bush (Bob), Barbara Zurzolo (Joe), and the late Marianne Miller (Tom) and many nieces and nephews.
Patricia was born in Delaware County, PA, and graduated from Landsdowne-Aldan High School in 1960. She worked for 4 years at General Expressways-Navajo Freight Lines in Philadelphia, PA as a senior clerk. In 1964, she married her “Twin Spirit” David, and they started a family. She was blessed to be a stay-at-home mother from then on. Patricia spent her life being a loving wife, friend, and mother to her four children, and later her eight grandchildren. She always put her husband and her children first in her life.
Patricia enjoyed drawing, painting, decorating, music, reading, shopping, travel, and getting dressed up for a night out on the town. She especially loved caring for her pets. She was a great dog mom, and an especially great bird mom to her two surviving parakeets, Sunny and Baby. She was a big Elvis fan, never missed an episode of General Hospital, and she loved her Baltimore Ravens! Most of all, Patricia loved and cherished her family. She prayed for them every night, never failing to name each and every one of them. Patricia made every holiday feel warm and magical, and she is the reason her family will continue with all the traditions she so effortlessly carried out year after year. To know her was to love her, and she will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at the Schimunek Funeral Home, 610 W. MacPhail Rd., Bel Air, on Monday, June 1, 2026. Visitation is at 11am with the service at noon. Entombment to follow at Bel Air Memorial Gardens, 809 Rock Spring Rd., Bel Air, MD.
