Peggy DeYoung Benson, age 90, previously of Bel Air, MD and current resident of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, April 9th, 2019. Born April 4th, 1929 in Greenville, NC, Peggy was the daughter of the late Joseph W. DeYoung and Ira Greene.
Peggy worked for WBAL, both in radio and in the early days of television, writing questions for quiz shows and helped with developing a movie stars news show. Peggy was an avid calligrapher with beautiful penmanship and took great pride in writing out cards to her friends and family. She enjoyed working in her yard and kept beautiful flower gardens around her home.
Peggy is survived by her two children: Gary D. Benson and his wife, Kimberly and Donna Benson Scott her husband Kevin; four grandchildren: Gavin Benson, Sarah Scott, Mason Benson and his wife, Samantha and Elliott Scott; one great grandchild: Lyla Benson. Including her parents, she was also preceded in death by her adoring husband of 52 years, Charles Donald Benson and sister, Patricia DeYoung.
A visitation will be held 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm on Friday, April 12th, 2019 at Schimunek Funeral Home, 610 W MacPhail Rd., Bel Air, MD 21014. A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at 11am on Saturday, April 13th, 2019 at the funeral home where family and friends may visit beginning at 10am.
