On February 7, 2026 Samuel D. "Sam" Tress passed away. He was the beloved husband of Patricia "Tricia" Tress (nee Fagan); devoted father of Jennifer Tress (Bob McMillan), Heather Clark (Ali Clark), Eric Tress (Ana Santiago), and Andrew Tress (Julie Tress); cherished grandfather of Nick Miller, Will Miller, and Aidan Clark; beloved son of the late Howard Tress, Sr. and Florence Tress; loving brother of Howard Tress, Jr. (Terry Tress); he is also survived by his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, family members and friends.
Samuel spent his entire career protecting and serving the communities he loved. He retired as a Lieutenant with the Baltimore City Police Department after 24 years of dedicated service. He then went to CCBC where he served as the Director of Public Safety for 7 years. Following that, he went to work at the University of Baltimore where he was the Chief of Police for 15 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air Inc., 610 W. MacPhail Rd. Bel Air, MD 21014, on Monday, February 16, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church (Fallston, MD) on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 10:30 AM. Inurnment will follow at Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens.
