Bill was born in Baltimore, MD in 1924 and was the only son of Alberta and Harry Shane. He served in the 754th Tank Battalion of the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific specifically in the Northern Solomon Islands (Bougainville) and in the liberation of the Philippines (Luzon). He worked at Crown, Cork and Seal prior to his military service and retired as a maintenance mechanic/machinist at the Western Electric Co.
Bill was a craftsman at his trade who enjoyed teaching his sons his skills, fly fishing, traveling with Boy Scout Troop 788, and relaxing with family and friends. He will be remembered as a hard working husband, father and grandfather. Above all he was forever by the side of wife Rose in every endeavor in life. They were inseparable for 68 years of marriage.
Bill will be remembered as the beloved husband of Rosalie M. Shane who preceded him in death, devoted father of William Shane, Jr. and his significant other Jill Hilliard of Townsend, Delaware, and Mark Shane and his wife Teresa Shane of Abingdon, MD; loving grandfather of Chad Shane of Abingdon, MD.
The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff at the Top of the Hill Manor Assisted Living for the loving care provided to Bill throughout this journey.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic a private viewing was held for immediate family and no other services are planned at this time. Rose and Bill will be interred together at Oaklawn Cemetery at later date.
