On July 26, 2021, William “Bill” Charles Van Sciver, 86, passed away in his daughter’s home after suffering from a long illness. He was born in 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Louise Hycintha (Orfe) and Huellings Lippincott Van Sciver, and was one of six children. He was raised in Merchantville, New Jersey and graduated from Merchantville High School in 1953. He also resided in Woodlynne, Sea Isle City, and Somers Point, New Jersey before moving to Maryland in 2018.
After high school he went on to be a very successful car salesman for Rice and Holman Ford Dealership in Maple Shade, New Jersey, and salesman and sales manager at several other car dealerships in southern New Jersey. He was also a blackjack and craps dealer at Playboy and Claridge Casinos in Atlantic City for several years before returning to sales in metal products. He had a great love for his family and friends. He also was a lifelong car enthusiast; he loved traveling and had many wonderful memories living at the Jersey Shore. He always enjoyed telling a good joke and had a special affection for his dogs.
He is lovingly survived by his former spouse Alice E. Van Sciver, nee Rieger; his children, Linda (Juan “Rick”) V. Rodriguez, the late William (Donna, nee Balabuck) R. Van Sciver, and Robert W. Van Sciver; his siblings, Huellings (Mary) Van Sciver, the late Mildred (Paul) Hargrave, James (Judy) Van Sciver, Walter (Gloria) Van Sciver, Christine Van Sciver, and sister-in-law, the late Doris M. Rieger; his grandchildren John Rodriguez, Jennifer (Louie) Renteria, Kevin (Jessica) Van Sciver, and Lauren (Jason) Dennery, as well as five great grandchildren, Savannah Renteria, Nichole Renteria, Michael Renteria, Gabriel Renteria and Natalie Dennery; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews from the Van Sciver and Hargrave families.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Saturday, August 21st at 10:00 AM at Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church, 43 W Maple Ave., Merchantville, NJ 08109. Internment following at Harleigh Cemetery, 1640 Haddon Ave, Camden, NJ 08103. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Welfare Association Humane Society (www.awanj.org).
