Evelyn Mae Tatum, age 61, beloved wife and Rose of John Stephen Tatum Sr, went on to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on July 20, 2020, in Kansas City Missouri.

Evelyn is survived by her husband and soul mate, John Stephen Tatum Sr, of Harrisonville, Missouri; son, John Stephen Tatum Jr., Harrisonville Missouri; mother, Geneva Spotz, Harrisonville Missouri; brothers, Wilbur C. Spotz III, Raymore Peculiar; Richard L. Spotz, Kansas City Missouri, and Kevin Spotz, Raymore Missouri. She is preceded in death by her father, Wilber C. Spotz Jr. and sister, Mary Louise Warner.

Evelyn was born on March 18, 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri, to parents Wilber C. Spotz Jr. and Geneva Spotz. Evelyn graduated from Grandview High School, and attended various College Accredited courses during her lifetime. In 1981, Evelyn joined her husband, John S. Tatum Sr, in Germany, and followed him to various U.S. Army bases in the course of his 21 years of service to the United States Army. During Evelyn’s time here on earth, she also held positions at the Internal Revenue Service and Kansas City Missouri, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg Maryland.

Evelyn was a wonderful wife and a loving mother during her life here on earth. She married John Stephen Tatum Sr in December of 1976, and the couple had 1 child together.

Evelyn was a socially, active woman who was deeply involved in a genuine care and compassion for people for the majority of her life. Evelyn was the owner of a Laundromat in Belton Missouri where she would consistently befriend many of her customers. There was not a day that did not go past whereby customers came by her laundromat to see her and do their laundry. Her family, friends, and customers will always remember her as a kind and gentle spirit. Evelyn enjoyed going on trips with her husband and spending quality time with him whenever possible.

This earth may have lost a wife and loving mother however, Heaven has gained another angel and the rose of my life!

Evelyn and I met working in the NIST Grants Office in Md. We quickly became good friends & enjoyed working together, going out to lunch every week, sharing memories of living oversees, & talking about our families. Her family meant everything to her. She loved to cook & would bring in meals and desserts for coworkers. I moved to WV & Evelyn moved back to Mo. but we tried to stay in touch. She’s a special friend I’ll always love and remember our times spent together. My sympathies to the entire family, she was their rock and may God give them strength & peace. May she be at peace, out of pain, and at rest, her faith was very strong.
