Gary Thomas Gentry

Gary Thomas Gentry, age 65, of Belton, MO passed away January 10, 2020 at Kansas City Hospice House. Gary fought bravely, but ultimately lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Visitation will be 6-7:30 pm, a Memorial service will follow at 7:30 pm Friday, January 17 at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 611 Chestnut, Belton, MO. Burial will be in the Maxwell Cemetery in Baxter, TN. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House.

Gary lived in Baxter, TN from birth, October 17, 1954 until he married Jean Henry on June 14, 1975. Following a year in Cookeville, TN, Gary received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Tech University. Gary and Jean moved to Kansas City, where he had a 40 year career as an engineer for Bendix (now Honeywell). Gary retired in 2016, spending his time relaxing with Jean, taking trips to Vegas, and enjoying his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. They were all like his children and grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, George T. and Ruby M. Gentry and his brother Denton E. Gentry. Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; brother in-laws and sister in-laws, Faye Gentry, San Carlos, CA; Saundra and Paul Degges, Brentwood,TN; Daryl and Rena Henry, Steve Henry and Pam Henry all of Cookeville, TN. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews in California and Tennessee.

Gary and I hired into Bendix the summer of 1976. I have many fond memories of working with Gary over our years there. Especially the special times of playing softball with Gary and Jean. Our prayers and deepest condolences go out to Jean and family. May God's blessings be upon you.

Gary was a coworker and close friend for 35 years. He was great at his job and an enjoyable person to work with. We shared many funny stories over the years. I always looked forward to interacting with Gary because of his expertise, wisdom and engaging personality. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. My condolences to Gary's family.

Gary worked within a group that was under my management for years at Honeywell before retiring. He did a great job and always demonstrated a commitment to improving the product line that he supported. He was a good colleague and friend. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I was blessed with the opportunity to work with Gary for many years with both of us as individual contributors and later as his Manager in Purchased Products Engineering. I worked with Gary and played ball with him in our younger working days. We were friends for many years during his working career. Gary was a really great guy and always entertaining to be around. He will be missed I am sure. I am saddened to hear of his passing.
