

SMSGT James S. Hainey, 88, of Belton, MO, passed away on Armed Forces Day, May 18, 2013 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. with a Memorial Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24 at St. Sabina Catholic Church 700 Trevis, Belton, MO. Inurnment will be at 1:00 p.m. in the MO State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Contributions are suggested to MO Veterans Home in Warrensburg or St. Sabina's Building Fund. Jim was born January 13, 1925, in Barnard, MO. to Rex and Zena Embry Hainey. He was a US Marine Corps WWII Veteran. Jim flew in 44 Combat Missions as a Tail Gunner. He attended Northwest MO State receiving a Bachelor's Degree in education. Jim taught at Union Star High School and then joined the Air Force for 18 years. He then worked at UMKC Dental School as a conference coordinator for 20 years, retiring in 1989. Jim was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 760 in Maryville, MO, VFW Post 8220 in Belton, the Air Force SGTS' Assoc. and the UMKC Retirees Association. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bill and Ron Hainey, sisters, Jean Dakan and Etta Raines. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia; four children, Penny and Pat Murphy, Jefferson City, MO, Rex and JoEllen Hainey, Raymore, MO, Tim and Barb Hainey, Springfield, MO, and Patti and Russ Harvey, Pleasant Hill, MO; sister, Betty Raterman, Warrenton, MO, and 11 grandchildren.
