

Gerald Lee Newkirk, 75, of Peculiar, Mo., passed away at home Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010. Services 2 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 22, at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 611 Chestnut, Belton, Mo. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the chapel. Burial in Belton Cemetery. Contributions to the Leukemia Society. Jerry was born in El Reno, Okla., to Robert and Gladys Newkirk on May 1, 1935, and came to this area in 1955 with his wife, Mettie. Jerry worked for the Belton Grain Co., for 23 years and then retired from Bendix/Allied Signal in 1994. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and hunting. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim and Bill; two sisters, Betty Shroy and Bea Newkirk. Jerry leaves his wife, Mettie of the home; four sons, Rodney of Adrian, Mo., Ricky of Belton, Randy of Harrisonville, Mo., and Mark of Peculiar. Also one daughter, Dawnda Conran of the home; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Cloyce Newkirk of Welch, Okla., and sister, Evelyn Hemphill of Bonner Springs, Kan. Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather who now Eternally Rests.
