Mrs. JoAnn Mosby, 89, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at her home in Carnegie Village in Belton, Missouri. Visitation will be 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 15, 2018 at South Haven Baptist Church in Belton, Missouri. Interment will follow the service in the Belton Cemetery.
JoAnn was born September 1, 1929, in Topeka, KS, to Lucile and Fred Savage. She was a graduate of Belton High School and attended the Kansas City Business College. She was married to William J. (Bill) Mosby on April 2, 1948. For 62 years JoAnn supported Bill in His varied careers that took them all over the world. Between 1948 and 1960 they lived and worked in Siloam Springs, AR, Belton MO, Springfield MO and McPherson KS. In 1960, they formed Mosby Insurance Company in Belton and owned and operated it for 17 years. During this period, they both were active in service to the community through participation in local government and in the ministries of First Baptist Church of Belton.
In 1976, they sold the insurance business and were selected and served as IMB missionaries at the Baptist Hospital in Sana’a, Yemen. In 1978 they returned to Belton and Bill entered Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary while JoAnn turned her attention to serving the extended family and local church. Upon Bill’s graduation as a Chaplain they moved to Fulton, MO where together they served the spiritual needs of those incarcerated with mental health issues. Upon Bill’s retirement in 1996, they moved to Columbia, MO to be near family and lived there until Bill’s death in 2010. The next year JoAnn returned home to Belton to be near friends and family where she lived happily in Carnegie Village independent living, participating in weekly bridge games with her friends, enjoying church activities and having many special times with family.
JoAnn is survived by two sons, David L. Mosby and wife Dottie of Raymore, and Douglas L. Mosby and wife Karla of St Louis; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one on the way, and her brother Jerry B. Savage and wife Cindy of North Kansas City, MO. Memorials in her honor may be made to South Haven Baptist Church, 16800 Bel-Ray Blvd, Belton MO 64012.
