Lois Marie (Carlson) Winkler joined the church triumphant October 15th 2021. Lois was born April 1931 in Moline, Illinois to Lloyd and Ida P. Carlson. Graduating from United Township High School in East Moline with honors, she moved on to her nursing calling, enrolling through Lutheran Hospital in Moline, Illinois graduating 1952.
Lois moved to Kansas City, meeting her soul mate and best friend, Earl Winkler. He had to ask her three times to marry before she said yes and they married on 25 September 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran in Westport. That union produced their three children; Linda Quane, Susan McCoy, and Paul Winkler and seven grandchildren; Markayla, Elle, Jessica, Tristan, Taylor, Lauren, and Daniel.
Lois loved travel, the outdoors, and festive gatherings. She and Earl spent twenty years building their home on 40 acres near Plattsburg Missouri while hosting many celebrations and raising a menagerie of beloved pets. Horseback riding, 4th of July fireworks, and Thanksgiving gatherings were always a highlight.
In 1990, Earl retired from TWA and they sold the farm and moved to Tucson, where Earl applied his machinist skills to metal and wood working, while Lois focused on their next great adventures with their travel trailer. In the early 2000’s, they moved to be close to Linda, Mark, Markayla and Elle Quane in El Segundo, CA until Earl suffered heart failure on March 25, 2012.
For the past 9 years, Lois resided with Linda, Susan, and Paul in their homes. Dementia robbed our mother of her memory, but luckily for us, did not rob her of her loving spirit, which is now with Earl.
