Mary (Corteville) Thompson, 92, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2018. A life-long resident of Grandview and south Kansas City. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 15 at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 12913 Grandview Rd, Grandview, MO. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 16 at Coronation of Our Lady Catholic Church, 13000 Bennington, Grandview, MO. Mary will be laid to rest in Longview Cemetery.
Mary was born on October 25, 1925. She grew up in Grandview, and her parents, Victor and Leone Corteville, were early settlers of the town after immigrating to the United States from Belgium. She married Huey Thompson on October 21, 1944. The couple raised their two sons in Grandview and were active members of St. Catherine’s and Coronation of Our Lady Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed dancing, baking, gardening, steak dinners and traveling, including many tropical cruises to celebrate her birthday and their anniversary over the years.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 67 years, Huey, as well as her parents and 3 brothers. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Self and her husband Jim; two sons, Ronald and his wife Caryn, of Bates City, and their children: Brett, Kurt, Mindi and Tricia; and Gary Thompson and his wife Kathy, of Grandview, and their children: Andrea and Mark. Mary also leaves 7 great-grandchildren: Kelsee, Ali, Evey, Gage, Coen, Ethan and Mikey.
