

Alan was born on February 28th, 1935 to Sam and Charlotte Herman in Brooklyn, NY.
Alan was a gifted student with a passion for learning, an intellectual curiosity and a competitive spirit. He was very proud of his academic accomplishments which included Brooklyn Technical High School, The City University of New York and ongoing graduate level studies at MIT.
After graduating college, Alan met and married Marilyn Radman. They raised four wonderful children, Linda, Sam, Jackie and Andy. Alan also has several amazing grandchildren including; Alex, Hannah, Caitlyn, Wesley, Ida, Sarah, Paul and Daniel.
Alan was always very involved in his children’s activities. Two of Alan’s favorite pastimes were coaching little league and serving as an Assistant Boy Scout leader. Alan spent countless hours on Little League baseball diamonds and Boy Scout campsites.
Alan loved tinkering with all things electrical, electronic and mechanical. Alan could always be found in the garage, workshop or office - working on a car, boat, computer or bicycle. For almost 90 years, figuring out how things worked and fixing them was a labor of love for Alan.
Alan met Ann Ross in 1989. After dating for two years, they happily tied the knot in 1991. Alan loved sharing stories of his travels, adventures and misadventures and Ann loved hearing them. It was simply a perfect match. Ann is an amazing, intelligent and wonderful woman – she joyfully provided the love, care and nurturing that Alan needed throughout their marriage.
Alan and Ann loved cruising. Over three decades they cruised much of the world together. For 34 years, they enjoyed a wonderful marriage and cultivated friendships from their travels and the places they lived. When they retired, they moved to Arbor Lakes in Hernando, Florida. During their retirement years, Alan passionately enjoyed fishing with friends and telling tall tales about the “big one” that got away. He often shared that some of his fondest memories were of the friends they made and the special times they all spent together at Arbor Lakes.
Alan enjoyed a challenging, productive and rewarding 32-year career at NOAA. Throughout his career he tackled challenging projects, traveled much of the world and received multiple awards and recognition for his contributions.
After Alan retired from NOAA, he launched his own consulting company which he named SGCA. Alan was very proud of the impactful projects that he completed for his valued clients.
The memorial service and reception will be held on Wednesday, February 19th at noon at Fero Funeral Home and Life Celebration Center in Beverly Hills, Florida.
Alan will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will be cherished forever

A celebration of life will occur Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, 5955 North Lecanto Highway, Beverly Hills, FL 34465. A committal service will occur Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Fero Memorial Gardens, N Lecanto Hwy, Beverly Hills, FL 34465.
