Edwin Matos, 71, of Beverly Hills, Florida passed away peacefully April 26, 2024, at his home. He was born in Bronx, NY to Carmen Parrilla and Miguel Angel Matos. After graduating High School, Edwin joined the US Air Force in 1970. His military career started at McGuire AFB, NJ and continued on to Ramstein AB, Germany; Little Rock AFB, AR; Patrick AFB, FL; and Clark AB, Philippines, where he met the love of his life, who was also stationed at Clark AB. While at Clark AB, he was assigned to 8th Mobile Aerial Port Squadron (MAPS). While in MAPS, he supported various operations in Australia, South Korea, Indonesia, and Japan. He also aided the national government during the 1989 Philippine coup d’etat. He reluctantly made a permanent change of station to Altus AFB, OK, where he retired from military service in 1994 with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Edwin moved to his current home in Pine Ridge and began his civilian career in 1996 with the Florida Dept. of Health, Dept. Children and Families and his federal career with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs after which he began his retirement life in 2014.
Edwin is survived by wife, Maria T, and children: Edwin R., Venessa (Jose), and Adrian (Carrie). 7 grandchildren: Katrina (Chad), EJ (Pim), Chyna, Katelin, Justin, Alina, and Adriana. 7 great-grandchildren: Kiley, Liam, Emma, Jayden, Alyissa, Stella, and Arabella. 5 sisters: Nancy (Jerome), Kim (Stephen), Rosita, Josie, Marisol and many nieces and nephews. Edwin is preceded in death by his father, Miguel Angel, brother, Valentin, and sister, Rosa Margarita.
A visitation/Celebration of Life for Edwin will be held Wednesday May 1, 2024 from 1600 to 1800 (4pm - 6pm) at Fero Funeral Home located at 5955 N Lecanto Hwy, Beverly Hills, Florida 34465. Mass will be held Thursday May 2, 2024 at 1100 (11am) at Our Lady of Grace located at 6 Roosevelt Blvd, Beverly Hills, Florida 34465. Burial will be held May 2, 2024 at 1400 (2pm) at Bushnell National Cemetery located at 6502 SW 102nd Ave. Bushnell, Florida 33513. Followed by a Celebration of Life Reception from 1600 to 1800 (4pm - 6pm) at Fero Funeral Home & Life Celebration Center.
