Fortunata "Fortune" T. Kennedy

Dr. Fortunata (Fortune) T. Kennedy, Ed.D, MSN, BSN, RN, 74, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 in Lecanto, FL. She was born on October 14, 1940 in Camarines Norte, Philippines to Tomas Tam Kwong and Felicidad Rasco Tam and was number eight of eleven children.

Fortune was a graduate of Far Eastern University in the Phillippines, Class of 1962; received her Master’s degree from Loyola University Chicago, IL; and received her Doctorate from Northern Illinois University.

Fortune was a Program Chief, Associated Health Education Office for the VA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. and a former nurse. She was a member of FEUNAF, PNAI, PNAA and active member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church, Lecanto, FL. She enjoyed playing in the church bell choir, fishing, playing mahjong, bingo and spending time with her lovely granddaughters, family and friends.

Survivors include, husband Jim Kennedy; daughter Jennifer and husband Michael Hernandez of Orland Park, IL; three granddaughters.

First Visitation in Florida, Sunday, February 15, 2015 from 3:00PM to 6:00PM at Fero Funeral Home. Funeral Mass, Monday, February 16, 2015, at 10:00AM at St. Scholastica Catholic Church.

Second Visitation in Illinois, Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 3:00PM to 9:00PM at Modell Funeral Home. Funeral Mass, Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Interment, Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 12:00PM Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
