Fortun was born in Calapan, Mindoro, Philippines. He was the second son of the late Magno Soriano and Felisa (Madrigal) Soriano. After graduating medical school he met his wife, Ruby Tolentino, while they were both doing their residencies. They later made their home in Columbus, OH where Fortun was Assistant Pathologist at the Ohio State University Hospital and Instructor in Clinical Pathology at the College of Medicine. He spent most of his career as Chief Pathologist for the state of OH and Medical Director for four different laboratories.
Fortun loved gardening, dancing, tennis, traveling, and cooking. He was always the life of the party. He was a founder and first President of the Philippine American Society of Central Ohio (PASCO). He also was Executive Vice-President of the Philippine American Corporation of Florida and Chairman of the Scholarship Committee. He was a generous, supportive, and loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Laurente Soriano, and his beloved wife, Ruby. He is survived by his children Fortunato (Sonya) Soriano of Clearwater, FL; Roderick Soriano of Columbus, OH; Ronald Soriano of Columbus, OH; Ruth (Kenneth) McGowan of Harrison City, PA; Richard Soriano of Columbus, OH; grandchildren Ryan, Cullen, and Casey McGowan and Marisa Soriano; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 9:00am, Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Fero Funeral Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 5891 North Lecanto Highway, Beverly Hills, FL 34465. Viewing and visitation will be immediately following the memorial.
