Franklin E. Peters, 80, Inverness FL, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Born in Rehoboth, MA on March 10, 1939 and raised in East Providence, RI, he was the son of Enos and Mary (Martin) Peters.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Helynn (Carpenter) Peters, sons Paul F. (Christine) Peters of Suwanee, GA and Ret. USAF Col Kurt M, PhD (Dr. Traci) Peters of Colorado Springs, CO, and daughter Christine H. (Patrick) Hayes of St Petersburg, FL. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Quintin and Chloe Peters, Mayah and Dean Peters, and Harrison and Cecilia Hayes.
Franklin is survived by two sisters, Dolores Sousa and Judith Lynch both of RI; and predeceased by sister Barbara Francis, East Providence, RI.
Mr. Peters graduated from East Providence High School, RI. He earned a Bachelor of Education from Rhode Island College (RIC) and a Master of Science degree in Education from Syracuse University. He also received his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) from the University of Connecticut. He had a long career enriching the lives of children, advancing from a math instructor to a principal at three schools: Saylesville, Northern Lincoln Elementary, and Lincoln Middle School, Lincoln, RI.
He and his wife retired to Citrus Hills, FL from Smithfield, RI in 2001.
He was a member of the St. Scholastica Knights of Columbus and Hernando Sportsman's Club.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 17 at 10:00 am at St. Scholastica Church, 4301 W. Homosassa Trail, Lecanto, FL 34461. Entombment will follow at Fero Memorial Gardens, 5955 N. Lecanto Hwy., Beverly Hills, FL 34465.
