

Helen Hanvey, 84, a former resident of Hackettstown and Hopatcong, NJ, passed away in Lecanto, Florida on October 10, 2010. She was born in New Brunswick, NJ on December 6, 1925 to David and Elizabeth Stecher.
While raising her family, Helen spent a lot of her time sewing and then she became an avid quilter and also found time to do embroidery and needlepoint. She was a deeply religious woman and very active in the parishes in which she worshiped. In Florida, she belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Litia Ladies Group and Bible Study Group. In New Jersey, she was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. For Many years she worked as a secretary at Allied Chemical Corporation in Morristown, NJ. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and giggling with her sister LilyAnn. Around 1990, she and her husband moved to Florida, first to Cocoa Beach then to Melbourne and lastly to a nursing home in Lecanto.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 30 years, John; her five children and their spouses: Chris and Carmen Bruno of Budd Lake, NJ; Madelene and Charles Milani of Hackettstown, NJ; Pat & Robert Augustine of Stamford, CT; Loreli Voltmer of Hatboro, PA; and Egon and Joan Voltmer of Glenside, PA; as well as five grandchildren, and one great grandson. She also leaves a stepdaughter Barbara Sadowski and her husband Lenny, a stepson John Hanvey, Jr., and five extended grandchildren and great grandchildren. She has two surviving sisters, Lily Ann Kubicek, and Rosalind Peters. She was pre-deceased by her sister Jeanette Evert and her granddaughter, Melissa Milani.
She will be remembered as a woman who cared deeply for her family and for her smile that that would light up a room.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 409 E. Baldwin Street, Hackettstown, New Jersey 07840. Interment was held at Pequest Union Cemetery in Great Meadows, NJ.
