OBITUARY

Jim and Marietta Boettcher

March 4, 1932December 12, 2020

Marietta Crandall had her first date with Jim Boettcher at their 5th grade dance in their tiny town of Wymore, Nebraska. Jim and Marietta were inseparable from that point on. After high school Marietta and her family moved to California. During his college years Jim went out to California to propose and they were married in 1953, while Jim was in college. Their first child, Barbara, came a year later. When Jim graduated, they moved to Connecticut and eventually ended up on a cute little idyllic '50's street where everyone knew everyone. There they had 3 boys, Jimmy (Jim), Paul, and Michael (Mike). Marietta was a very busy wife, mother, and homemaker, and she had no car. Marietta was blessed with a lovely soprano voice and, besides singing in her small church choir, she often sang solos. She was also active, along with her husband, running the church youth group. Together they were active in a bowling league, a bridge group and were often seen dancing to the big bands of the 50’s music. In 1965 they moved into the house that Jim designed and had built in Vernon, CT. When the children were in their teens, she got an office job and enjoyed being out of the house. Jim and Marietta began there moves back and forth between Florida and Connecticut in 1976. While living in Jupiter, FL Marietta began working for Nichols Sanitation/Waste Management where she was eventually promoted to office manager because of her hard working spirit and quick learning abilities. After moving back and forth a number of times, Jim and Marietta landed in Crystal River, Florida in 1996. Marietta never played golf (Jim’s favorite pastime) until they retired in Crystal River on the Plantation Inn Golf Course. It was not long before Marietta became Plantation Inn Golf Course Women’s Club Champion, a feat she accomplished two years in a row. When their children would visit, they loved playing golf with Marietta and Jim, even if they were often beat by her. Marietta also loved playing board and card games (beating her kids in cribbage too). During all that time they had 12 grandchildren, whom grandmother Marietta thoroughly enjoyed. They also have 8 great grandchildren. After Jim's death in April 2020 (due to Covid-19) Marietta relocated to live with her son, Mike, and his wife Debbie, in South Carolina, until her death on December 12, 2020, due to complications of Alzheimer's. Marietta and Jim’s combined memorial will be held virtually on January 15th, 2021 at 1:00PM.
