Marie Socorro Scott, born December 5, 1932, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026. Marie was married to the love of her life, Charles Scott, for almost 73 years. Their marriage was a beautiful love story filled with love, friendship, laughter, family, and countless adventures. Charles lovingly called her “Socky,” and they truly were best friends. Their bond was so strong that even in death, they could not be apart for long. Charles passed away just 22 days before Marie. After nearly 73 years of marriage, their family finds comfort in knowing that they are together again.
Marie was lovingly known as “Mammow” to her amazing grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was one of the greatest joys of her life. She was so proud of her family and spent as much time with them as possible. Her family was her greatest treasure, and the love she gave them will remain with them forever.
Marie had an amazing nursing career spanning more than 30 years. She worked in hospitals before continuing her career in public health, dedicating her life to caring for others. She was a compassionate, hardworking, and caring nurse who touched many lives throughout her career.
Marie also helped Charles with their travel trailer business, Camp America. After retiring, Marie and Charles enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and living in Alaska. They created some of their most cherished memories during those years together. Charles would catch salmon, and Marie would create all kinds of delicious salmon dishes. Their adventures reflected the life they shared always together and always making memories.
She was the first child of 11 born to Arnulfo and Luisa Ortiz. She lost her mother at the age of 19 years old. She is preceded in death by her sisters: Aurora Gonzalez, Gloria Garcia, Consula Rosel, Genevieve Garcia, and Alicia Martinez.
Marie is survived by her three children, Dave Scott (Denise), Steve Scott (Brandi), and Sandy Latimer (John); her grandchildren, Amy,
Stefanie, Laura, Emily, Tyler, and Virginia; her bonus grandchildren, Ryan, Bailey, Tammy, and Candi; her great-grandchildren, JJ, Faith,
Harper, Lila Mae, Maddox, Lennox, Charlie, and Lillie; and her bonus great-grandchildren, Bryson, Miles, Nolan, Isaac, Shawn, and
Desiree. She is also survived by her sister, Minerva Garcia, and her brothers, Arnulfo, Juan, Daniel, and David Ortiz.
Marie will be remembered for her loving heart, her strength, her caring spirit, and, most of all, the love she had for her family. She was the heart of so many family memories and a constant source of love and comfort.
Although the loss of Marie leaves an emptiness that can never be filled, her family can find comfort in knowing that she is no longer without her beloved Charles. After only 22 days apart, they are together once again—the best friends who spent nearly 73 years side by side.
