Peter Carl Abrams

Peter C. Abrams, 76, of Hernando, Florida, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 18th, under the loving care of HPH Hospice of Marion County, where he was finally placed at the E.W. & Lucille Cates House during his final days, following six weeks of extensive care provided by Brookdale Canopy Oaks Senior Living. Special thanks to Kelly Anderson, Brookdale's Health & Wellness Director, who came through as every need arose with unmatched professionalism, as well as Ada Modelo, a nurse's aide, who provided incomparable compassionate care, the likes of which his wife, Lynne, had rarely witnessed before. And not to be forgotten, Dianne Terry, who volunteered to fill in time gaps for Peter's wife during his final days at the Canopy Oaks facility.

He is survived by his wife of ten years, Lynne Farrell Abrams; sister, Bonnie Abrams; children, Seth Abrams, Jason Abrams, and Kelli Rust; sister-in-law, Vera Potapenko; her husband, James Silicani; niece, Loo Abrams Rich; nephews, Thomas Potapenko Farrell, and Galen Rich; granddaughter, Madeline Abrams; and numerous other grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, Eva Abrams and Hyman Abrams, both Holocaust survivors, as well as by his brother-in-law, Jonathan Rich, and sister-in-law, Rosemarie Farrell.

Peter was born October 20, 1946 in Bavaria, Germany. Three years later, the family emigrated to the United States, settling in New York City. Peter attended the High School of the Arts & Design. He graduated from Pace college with a Master's Degree in Speech Therapy/Pathology. For the better part of his forty year working career, he was a practicing Speech Pathologist, finally retiring in 2018.

An Ardent nature lover, Peter crafted bird feeders displayed in his Citrus Hills backyard, which he took great pleasure in filling daily. In addition, his flair for the arts was manifested in the 16 plays he directed at the Citrus County Art Center Theatre. His versatility had him equally at home with comedies, musicals and dramas. His vocal range won him singing and acting roles in many plays, both at the Art Center Theatre, and the former Playhouse 19 venue.

He was perhaps proudest of his performance as Cole Porter in "Red Hot and Cole." Peters last directorial venture was "I'm not Rappaport," staged at the Art Center Theatre in 2019. The house acknowledged its success with sold out performances and standing ovations.

Peter and his wife Lynne were married in 2013. They loved playing the Lagoons nine-hole golf course at the Plantation in Crystal River; dressing "to the nines" for fine dining outings and theater performances; and occasional trips to Flagler Beach, where they walked the coquina sands collecting seashells.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 22nd at 10 AM at Fero Memorial Gardens. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Citrus County's local nonprofit, Coping with Dementia, LLC; or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at its website: www.lbda,org.
