

Randall Scott Benfer, 71, of Citrus Springs, FL, passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024 at Vitas Healthcare in Lecanto, FL. A native of Sunbury, PA, he was born Jan. 17, 1953 to Scott and Georgia (Stradley) Benfer, one of seven children. Randy, as he was known to many, served his country honorably and proudly in the Unites States Marine Corps for nine and a half years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then had a long career as a correctional officer for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. During his career, he served in federal correctional institutions in Danbury, CT; Beckley, W.Va. and Fort Dix, N.J., and was a member of VFW Post 10087 of Beverly Hills, FL. Mr. Benfer was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Benfer. Randy is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia Leah “Cindy” Benfer, Citrus Springs, FL; children David Benfer and Wendy McDermott, both of North Carolina and Jennifer Benfer of Selinsgrove, PA; stepchildren Jamie Sprague, Beverly Hills, FL; Jacqueline Bivens, Gainesville, FL; Joseph Bivens (wife Brandi), Jupiter, FL; Jason Bivens, Atsugi, Japan; four grandchildren; siblings Sandi Willingmyre and Winnie Danley, both of Katy, TX; Evelyn Ray (husband Bob), Largo, FL; Shirley Huddock (husband Chas), Northumberland, PA and Thelma Dressler (husband Charlie), Selinsgrove, PA.
