Raymond Joseph Dobos

Raymond Dobos, 88, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026 at approximately 4:47 p.m. in Ocala, Florida. Born on April 13, 1938, in Torrington, Connecticut, to Andrew Dobos and Susanne Kissko, Ray lived a life filled with love, service, and dedication to his family, career, and faith.

Ray graduated from Torrington High School in 1955 and soon after enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his four years of service, he was deployed to Libya and worked in weather analysis, studying formations and patterns that would later influence his professional path. His time in the military not only honed his skills but also instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and purpose.

After completing his military service, Ray moved to Florida to begin the next chapter of his life. He initially worked for the Telephone Company but soon found his dream job as a weatherman at Channel 10 Miami. Ray became a familiar face on television, and even years later, locals fondly recognized him for his engaging presence during weather broadcasts.

Later in life, Ray transitioned to teaching and took on the role of an electronics teacher at Dunnellon High School in Ocala. Known affectionately as "Mr. D" by his students, he thrived in this position, sharing his knowledge and passion for fixing things. Many of his former students continued to stay in touch with him over the years, a testament to the lasting impact he had on their lives.

Ray’s personal life was marked by enduring love and devotion. After leaving the military, he married Frances Corbo, with whom he shared 47 wonderful years until her passing in 2008. In 2010, fate brought Ray back together with his high school sweetheart, Julia Morzella Osterhout. Julia had also experienced loss after her husband of 50 years passed away. Reunited after decades apart, their love rekindled as if no time had passed. In 2012, they married in Ocala and spent the last 14 years deeply devoted to one another.

Ray’s hobbies reflected his curious mind and kind heart. He loved metal detecting and often returned treasures to their rightful owners when possible. An avid stargazer, he spent countless nights exploring the heavens through his telescope. Ray found joy in watching the Wild Life around his home. He regularly provided fresh water and seeds for the birds and squirrels.

Faith played a central role throughout Ray’s life. His spiritual beliefs provided him with a foundation of love and compassion that guided his interactions with others. He treated everyone with dignity and kindness, embodying the values he cherished from scripture.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife Julia Morzella Osterhout; step children Diane Palmer, Larry Osterhout and Aaron Osterhout; sisters Lorraine, Jeanie, and Mary; and brother Andrew. He was predeceased

by his first wife Frances Corbo; parents Andrew Dobos and Susanne Kissko; sister Ronnie; and brother Robert.

Ray’s jovial spirit and sense of humor were hallmarks of his personality. Those who knew him will remember him as a compassionate man who approached life with unwavering positivity and grace.

Ray will be buried at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell Florida with Military honors. A small private graveside service will be performed.
