Renee Catherine Clarke

July 16, 1931November 8, 2020

Renee Catherine Brue Clarke, 89, of Queens, New York, was granted her angel wings on November 8, 2020. Renee was born July 16, 1931 in Mobile, Alabama to Clewis Anthony Brue and Geneva Beatrice Battle. She was the youngest of two children. Her former husband Allen Herbert Clarke, brother Clewis and granddaughter Lauren Renee Thompson proceeded her in death.

Renee attended Xavier University in New Orleans and graduated from York College in Queens, New York, where she majored in economics and graduated magna cum laude. For over 25 years, she worked as a correctional officer for the City of New York Department of Corrections, where she retired as a captain. After leaving the department of corrections, she worked as a manager for Chemical Bank. She also worked as a volunteer for a host of charitable causes.

Above all else, Renee was dedicated to her four daughters and loved spending time with them. She took great satisfaction in raising and grooming them. They were her pride and joy. They were the apple of her eye.

Renee possessed uncommon goodness, humanity and humility. With those admirable qualities, she touched and improved the lives of many--especially those who tried to improve their lives by their own efforts--throughout her memorable life. She believed that work was good for the soul.

Among many of her talents, Renee was a gifted seamstress, who delighted in designing unique and beautiful clothes for her daughters. Always eager to learn and to share little pearls of wisdom, she had a passion for computers and even found time to teach others how to become more efficient users. In short, she was a computer aficionado. At her leisure, she also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

Renee leaves cherished memories of her life with her loving daughters; Jean Nelson, Joan Roberts, Beatrice Hofman and Renee Celeste Clarke; two sons-in-law John Christopher "Chris" Roberts and Kent Nelson; five grandchildren, John Michael Roberts, (Leonie Neufville), James Mathew Nixon Jr.,(Nicole Bertrand Nixon), Jason Martin Roberts, (Jennifer Roberts), Kristen Renee Roberts and Nicole Renee Nixon; four great-grandchildren, Kiera Renee Roberts and Evan Christopher Roberts; Anthony Jackson and Jasmine Michelle Roberts; two aunts, Bernice Battle and Jean Battle, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Renee never minced her words. She always meant what she said and said what she meant. In keeping with that candid spirit, before crossing over to the other side, she made it clear that she only wanted a grave side service. Her family will, of course, honor that request. They invite both its members and friends to attend this service.

Renee's grave side service will take place at St. Charles Resurrection Cemetery, on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 12:30 p.m., on St. John-St. Paul Plot, Grave 7554. Beginning at 11:00 a.m., a funeral procession will gather at R. Stutzmann & Son Funeral Home, located at 224-39 Jamaica Avenue, Queens Village, NY, 11428. It will proceed to St. Charles Resurrection Cemetery, located at 2015 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735, where Renee's grave side service will be held. We hope you will be able to join the procession or perhaps go directly to the cemetery and attend the grave side service.

At a future date, in celebration of Renee's life, a memorial service will be announced. We invite you all to join us in that celebration. Renee will live in the memory of all who were blessed to know and touched by her warmth, kindness and love. Her earthly work is finished. She now dwells in the kingdom of God. But her Christ-like compassion, benevolence, goodwill and affection have left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew and loved her. Job well done thy good and faithful servant. Very well done! No words, of course, could ever express how much we love and will miss your Beautiful Spirit. Goodnight and rest in eternal peace.

Education was one of Renee’s greatest passions. In lieu of sending flowers, please support her legacy by making a charitable donation to the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF), a national, public, nonprofit organization founded by Rachel Robinson in 1973 as a vehicle to perpetuate the memory of her husband, Jackie Robinson, who passed away in 1972. The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars program provides four-year scholarships, hands-on mentoring, and leadership development opportunities to talented college students with limited financial resources. NOTE: Please check the box under “Tribute Gift” and type Renee Catherine Clarke’s name in the box. If sending a check, please indicate in the comments that this gift is in memory of Renee.
