Robert W. Magee, age 87, husband, father, grandfather, military man, purple heart recipient, poker player, fisherman,
and damn good golfer, died, peacefully in his sleep, on Veteran's Day Nov. 11, 2018. This would have pleased him, having served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Bobby, as he was known, was born in in Newton Highlands
Massachusetts in 1931. He went to the University of Miami on a golf scholarship. He must have liked Florida, since he moved to Dunnellon when he retired. He joined the Marine Corp and fought in the Korean War. He met and married Lorraine Provencher, known as Rainy, a nurse in Boston. Bobby enlisted in the Army, traveled the world, played golf, and raised four children. In addition to the Korean War, in which he received a Purple Heart. He also fought in the Vietnam War, both receiving a Purple Heart as well as a Silver Star. He served with the Military Order of the Purple Heart and proudly wore his hat everywhere. He was also a committed volunteer for any and all veteran’s events. He loved life and lived it to the fullest, I know he hated to let it go.
Bob Magee was preceded in death by his son Robert Magee Jr. and his wife Lorraine. He is survived by his three children, Scott Magee and his wife Billie of Sarasota, his daughter Bonnie Magee and her husband Joel Gorton of Snowmass Village, Co. and his son Bryan Magee of Sarasota. He is also survived by his grandson Christopher Magee and granddaughter Lauren Magee of Sarasota.
Bob Magee will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. There will be a viewing at Fero Funeral Home at 5955 N. Lecanto Hwy, Beverly Hills, Fl. on Saturday November 17 at 10-11am. A gathering will follow afterwards in Dunnellon, at the Purple Sage, his favorite restaurant. Purple Sage restaurant is located at 20359 E. Pennsylvania Ave. in Dunnellon.
