Shirley Jean Starr, 75 , of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, passed away April 21, 2017 at Hospice House in Lecanto, Florida. Born May 24, 1941 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, she was predeceased by her parents, Longin Z. and Alice B. Uzarski of Twinsburg Ohio, her brother Thomas Uzarski of Mentor, Ohio, her brother in law Walter "Buzz" Terhune of Inglis, Florida, and her husband Thomas Starr of Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
Shirley is survived by her brother, John (Claudia Benko) Uzarski, sister Rose Uzarski, sister Marilyn (Ron) Hegedish, and her children, Thomas Starr, Janice Hood, and Tina Lynn (Chris) Hall, 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and an abundance of beloved nieces and nephews.
Shirley's greatest joy was her family. Every member, from the nearest to the most distant, was a delight and so precious to her. She missed those she did not see often, and was always happy to receive updates, pictures, and information about them. She made many friends over the years, moving from Grand Rapids as a young mother to Lima, Ohio, then Bowling Green, Kentucky, and finally to Kings Mountain, North Carolina. She retired in August 2016, after 15 years, from Walmart in Shelby, North Carolina, and sorely missed by her co-workers and customers. Shirley loved to read and instilled the love of books in her children. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and loved dogs. There will be a memorial service in Kings Mountain at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Citrus County or to the Hospice in your area.
