

Walter A. Oberti, 93, of Crystal River, Fl. passed away Jan. 25, 2014. Born in Wanaque, N.J. He served in the U.S. Air Force during W.W. II as Master Sargent – Crew Chief & Flight Engineer (1942-1945). After his service Walter became a pioneer in the rocket industry working with Thiokol Chemical Corp. and was Chief of Test Operations with Reaction Motors. He also served 35 years with the Pompton Lakes, N.J. Fire Dept. and First Aid Squad, as well, 9 years on the Pompton Lakes Board of Education. Mr. Oberti was a life member of Rotary International and his hobbies included golfing, hunting, fishing and being a huge Tampa Bay Rays fan.
He was preceded in passing by his wife of 67 years Elsie (Moscone) Oberti. Survivors include his daughter Patricia (Oberti) Manfredo of Land O’ Lakes, Fl.; son, Wayne Oberti, M.D. and wife Linda of Jacksonville, Fl.; 2 granddaughters, Christin Manfredo of Land O’ Lakes, Fl. and Corinne Hamel and husband Max of St. Augustine, Fl.; 2 great-grandchildren Savannah and Evan Hamel of St. Augustine, Fl.
A private committal was held at Fero Memorial Gardens where Military Honors were conducted.
