
Alex Curry age 96 of Pleasant Grove, AL passed away Monday, February 27, 2012. He was the second oldest of 10 children. He served our country in the South Pacific during WWII and was wounded in New Guinea in June 1944. He received the Purple Heart. He moved to Alabama in the early 1950’s and was employed at Birmingham Southern Railroad until retirement in 1981. He served as Deacon, then Elder at West End and Palisades Church of Christ. He was an experienced wood craftsman, auto mechanic, and electrician. He enjoyed gardening and caring for his beautiful lawn. His greatest joy was his family. Mr. Curry is survived by his children, Don Curry (Heidi) of Santa Fe, NM; Linda Weaver (Fred) of Hoover, AL, and Sharon Evans (Mike) of McCalla, AL; grandchildren, Caitlin Curry, Phillip Weaver (Kim), Christopher Weaver, Michael Evans (Brooke), Alexis Williams (Chris), Meghan Handley (Spencer); great-grandchildren, Raylee and Fisher Evans; brother, M.H. Curry of Orfino, Idaho; sisters, Mariam Hayward of Lewiston, Idaho, Lydia Murrey of Salem Oregon, and Kathy Norbeck of Garfield, Washington. Visitation will be Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel from 5:00-7:00 pm. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Chapel with Rich Kaufhold officiating and burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
