Alice Aramaki Endo passed away at home at the age of 88. She was born in Oceanside, California to Ichiro and Koume Aramaki, and grew up in Los Angeles until 1942, when all people of Japanese descent living on the West Coast were put into detention camps. Her family was sent to Manzanar War Relocation Center in the Owens Valley desert, where they lived until the spring of 1945 when they were allowed to relocate to Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1950, at the age of 16, Alice was the youngest student at The University of Utah, and was featured in the newspaper alongside the oldest student. She married in 1952 and started a family in 1954. In 1957 the family moved from Utah to Birmingham, Alabama. In 1968 Alice began her career as a computer programmer. She retired from UAB Health Data Systems as a computer systems analyst in 1993, which was also the year her beloved black cat, Snowball, came to her door and found his forever home with her. In retirement she enjoyed traveling, and visited England, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, France, and Japan. Alice is survived by her three children, Eric(Elena), Kevin(Terry), and Alice Anne(Manabu); grandsons, Masumi and Kazumi; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alley Cat Allies, Natural Resources Defense Council(NRDC), Earthjustice, The Humane Society, or a favorite charity.
