

Annie was born in York, Alabama and lived her early childhood years in Bessemer and Decatur. She later moved to Birmingham and graduated from Woodlawn High School. She graduated from Alabama College for Women in 1946. Her first job was with the State Board of Health in Jackson, Mississippi. It was there that she met James Hunt Bass and they were married December 27, 1947. They started off in New Orleans so that he could attend Tulane University. Upon returning to Birmingham she taught mathematics at Jones Valley High School 1949-1955. She taught at Berry High School from 1969-1988. During her retirement years she was devoted to her husband and grandchildren. She was an active member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church where she was a member of UMW and the Opportunity Sunday School Class. She served on many committees and the church was a very important part of her life. She is predeceased by her parents, Gregory Morris Dillard and Marie McCrory Dillard and her husband James Hunt Bass. Mrs. Bass is survived by her brother, Morris Dillard, Hamden, CT; her daughter Melissa Smith (Gene), her son Greg Bass (Kelly), five grandchildren; Allison, Jim, Cameron, Bradley (Becca), Tyler, and many cousins and other relatives. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 15th from 4:00 to 6:00 at Elmwood Chapel. Funeral service will be Sunday at 2:00 pm at Elmwood Chapel with burial to immediately follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
