

Annie Lee Driver, age 95, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Tuesday May 29, 2018. Annie was born August 14, 1922 in Mobile, Alabama to Rev. Alexander Lucas Rhone and Irene Jackson Rhone. She was preceded in death by her parents and all ten of her siblings and one son, Henry Driver and granddaughter Alexandra Beachum. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Mobile, Alabama and attended Miles College for two years and eventually graduated from Alabama State University in 1952 with an honorable Cum Laude with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and a minor in History. She served as an educator for 18 years and for a brief period of time served as the Assistant Administrator for the Afro-American Cultural Foundation in White Plains, N.Y. After leaving the teaching profession, she helped start a newspaper which was published under the organization the Progressive Education Incorporated. She was a long time and faithful member of St. John's AME Church in Birmingham, AL. Annie leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved children, Anne Michel and Alexander Driver; grandchildren, Monica Irish, Darren Driver (Kelly), Devin Driver (Necoal) and Meredith Edwards; grandson in-law, Kevin Beachum and great granddaughter, Katheryn Beachum, and many other great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
