Obituary of Antionette Campisi
Antionette Campisi, 60, passed away surrounded by those who loved her most, on July 29, 2022 in Montgomery, Alabama. She was born on April 3, 1962 to Peter and Frances Plaia Campisi. She graduated from John Carroll High School in Birmingham, AL. She worked as a teacher’s aide at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in the Preschool program. She was fondly known as “Miss Antionette”. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Cathedral until her move to Montgomery, AL in 2013. Then she became a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Montgomery. Antionette was a member of the Italian Heritage Society, AUM War Hawk Fit Program, the Special Olympics, Special Friends at St. Mark’s UMC, and a camper of over 50 years at Camp Sumatanga. She was very active with the Apostolic program for Special Needs with the Diocese of Birmingham where she traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States. She was one of the founding members of the Exceptional Foundation. Antionette will be remembered for many things like her love for bingo, dancing, and bowling, but most especially for her BIG hugs. Everyone cherished those, along with her smile. She loved her nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She had a special connection and bond with each of them. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Peter and Frances Plaia Campisi. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sisters, Jean Scholl (Ed) of Montgomery, AL and Mary Rose Cameron (Brian) of Birmingham, AL; niece, Christy Scholl Hale (Tyler) of Montgomery, AL; nephews, Pete Scholl of Calera, AL, Brian Cameron (Alicia) of Trussville, AL, and Tony Cameron (Meridith) of York, SC; great-nieces, Ella and Kate Hale of Montgomery, AL, and Scarlett Cameron of York, SC; great-nephews, Cullen Cameron of Trussville, AL, Charlie Scholl of Calera, AL, and Sutton Cameron of York, SC; aunt, Virginia Contorno of Birmingham, AL; special cousins, Sister Madeline Contorno, OSB, Michael and Sammy Contorno; many extended family; and a very special friend, Mike Sperando. The family would like to thank Prattville Heath and Rehab for their special and loving care during the three years Antionette was there. A visitation will be Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 9 am at St. Paul’s Cathedral, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10 am. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Campisi family.
