Antoinette “Nette” Bakane Stocks went home to be with the Lord on August 29, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Lou Bakane; siblings, Phillip Bakane, Sarah Hogg, and Jerry Bakane. Nette is survived by her sons, Christian Stocks (Mary) and Gerald Stocks (Sarah Coffee); brothers, Mike Bakane, Jr. (Pam) and Kelly Bakane (Susan); sisters-in-love, Sherry Bakane and Patricia Bakane; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nette was born September 25, 1955 in Birmingham, AL. She was a math teacher at Rutledge Middle School in Midfield, AL. After her retirement, she was a substitute teacher for the Hoover School System because she loved teaching children. When she wasn’t teaching, she was a caregiver for her mother. They were true “partners in crime”.
In 1991, her younger brother, Jerry, was diagnosed with leukemia. Nette was the only match for him, and proudly donated her bone marrow to save his life. They celebrated that day as his second birthday for the next 26 years. She was family oriented and loved them with her whole heart. Nette was very proud of the accomplishments of her two sons. She always supported their endeavors, which included band and academia at Mississippi State. She was a social butterfly and loved hosting dinners with family, friends, and game nights in her home. For many years, she and her teacher friends from college would gather at least once a month for recipe exchanges, lunch, gossip, and a good cup of coffee. Nette had a very strong Christian faith. She loved the Lord and studying her Bible.
Nette will be greatly missed by her friends and family. There will be a graveside celebration of life on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11 am at Elmwood Cemetery.
