

Barbara Sewell Baker passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 23, 2021 , at St. Vincent’s East Hospital, Birmingham, AL. Her 91 years of service to Christ included 5 years on the mission field in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, and over 30 years as a pastor’s wife, serving churches in Memphis, TN, Tuscaloosa, AL, and Hannibal, MO. She also touched the lives of countless children in her 20+ years of teaching. Barbara was born as the middle child to Clyde Stetzel and Martha Virginia Moore Sewell in Jackson, TN, where she attended primary and secondary schools, and earned her Bachelor’s degree from Union University. She later was awarded a Master’s degree from the University of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Erin Baker, her mother and father, and her brother, Clyde Jr., and is survived by her children, Robert David (Charlotte) Baker, Virginia Elizabeth (Scott) Wiggins, Susan Leigh Baker, and Rebecca Erin (Kenneth) Wise, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, her sister, Virginia (Robert) Vidaver, and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Hollywood Cemetery in Jackson, TN. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Dawson Baptist Church in Homewood, AL.
