Barbara Jean Massey McNees, 86, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away on Monday evening, October 5, 2026. An early graduate of Fairfield High School in Fairfield, Alabama, and Massey Business College in Birmingham, Alabama. Barbara was retired from U.S. Steel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Vern McNees; parents, Mildred Mae Maddox Massey and Wilton Wilkerson Massey, and great nephew, Timothy Lucas Collins. Barbara is survived by her son, Michael Alan McNees (DeVonna); grandchildren, J.D. McNees (fiancé, Ella), Andy McNees, and Brodie McNees; nieces, Pamela H. Collins (David Duane) and Jennifer H. Heard (Donis Allen); nieces and nephews, Abbey L. Collins, Andrew L. Collins, Emily L. Collins, Christopher A. Heard, Kenzie D. Heard Meyers (Jonathan), and Samuel L. Heard.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home, Birmingham, Alabama, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama. Chuck Williamson will officiate.
