Barbara was a proud graduate of the University of Alabama and a member of the Million Dollar Band. She was a loyal employee of Baptist Princeton Hospital where she spent her entire 36-year career working as a Microbiologist.
Barbara was also a long-time member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Choir, the Handbell Choir and Jubilee Singers.
Barbara exemplified the concept of others before self. Her love for the Lord was reflected in her love for others, which explains why so many who met her considered her the best of friends. For years, Barbara helped those in need across the world by making countless shoeboxes in support of Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. She traveled from store to store to find and purchase each item, and meticulously ensured that each shoebox had all the appropriate items.
A Celebration Service is scheduled for July 3, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Shades Mountain Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation to the Barbara Powell Shoebox Fund to support the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. Donations can be made at any Bryant Bank branch office, or can be sent to: Barbara Powell Shoebox Fund C/O Bethany Smith 6030 Candler Avenue Tuscaloosa, AL 35406
