Barry Duke LaGroue, born in Birmingham, AL on August 7, 1945 to Margie Lockett LaGroue and Walter DuBreuil LaGroue. He died peacefully on March 11, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dan Warren LaGroue; and granddaughter Celia Shannon O’Hare. He is survived by his children, Kelly LaGroue, Lanier O’Hare (Barry), and Duke LaGroue (Melissa); grandchildren, Tracy John Clayton, Michelle Clayton, Jacob Clayton, Amelia Clayton, Dillon O’Hare, Caitlin O’Hare, Maggie O’Hare, Frances O’Hare, Daniel LaGroue, and Giovanna LaGroue; great-granddaughter, Maria Green; brother, Walter Lockett LaGroue (Carolyn); sister, Margie Alice “Bea” Newman (Paul); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barry graduated from the University of Alabama, where he earned his Business degree. He had a firm work ethic, first cultivated at his family's business, LaGroue Feed and Seed. After graduating from college, he joined the Air National Guard. Throughout his career, he worked with Sun Industries, and later with his brother, Walter, at Wallace International. He spent many years working with Scientific Games, starting lotteries on every continent except Antarctica. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, both sharing stories and imparting sage advice.
There will be a visitation on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 10:00 am until 10:30 am at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 am. The committal will be at Elmwood Cemetery following the service.
