Betty Queen Sides

Mrs. Sides was born August 16, 1932 in Birmingham to the late Fred and Estelle Queen. She was a graduate of Phillips High School and attended the University of Alabama. She married Charles Sides in 1954 and enjoyed 56 years with him until his death in 2011. Mrs. Sides was employed for 27 years with the Birmingham Board of Education as School Secretary at Elyton Elementary.

Mrs. Sides enjoyed all kinds of crafts and collecting and has left to family and friends many beautiful needlepoint works. Her yard was her outdoor enjoyment where she cared for her roses, daylilies, and hydrangeas.

Mrs. Sides was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Elizabeth Queen. Survivors include her son Keith (Jane) Sides of Birmingham, brothers William Queen of Greenville, N.C., and Richard (Jan) Queen of Montgomery; grandchildren Katie (Joe) Beaugez, Trey Sides, and David (Shelby) Sides, along with several nieces and nephews. Sammy, her dog, was her constant companion.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 1:00 PM-1:50 PM at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel 800 Dennison Avenue SW Birmingham, Alabama 35211.There will be a Graveside Service following the Visitation at Elmwood Cemetery 600 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Birmingham, Alabama 35211 in Block 25 Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 2:00 PM.
