Born on December 6, 1928, Betty was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stubbs. She graduated from Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama, and went on to attend the University of North Alabama for two years. Her early dedication to education laid a strong foundation for a life marked by diligence and service.
Betty spent many years as the executive assistant and bookkeeper at Emmet O'Neal Library in Mountain Brook, Alabama. Her work there reflected her love of books and her commitment to supporting her community through literacy and learning.
A devoted member of Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook, Betty found strength and fellowship in her faith community throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Porter J. Yates, with whom she shared many cherished years.
Betty is lovingly remembered by her son, Harry Steven Yates (Deborah) of Mobile, Alabama; her daughter, Nancy Yates Higginbotham (Patrick) of Hoover, Alabama; and her grandchildren: Emily Yates Sewell (RJ), Bradley Yates Higginbotham (Holly), and Ryan Patrick Higginbotham. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, whom she adored deeply.
In addition to her professional accomplishments and family devotion, Betty found joy in simple pleasures—reading a good book, preparing meals for loved ones, and spending time at the beach. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
