Beverly Maude Lucas, 89, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 8, 2023. She was born October 25, 1934, in Birmingham, Alabama, to James William and Mary Lee Mardis. Upon graduating from Woodlawn High School she stayed in Birmingham working in various roles.
She married her late husband Johnny Lucas after meeting him at City Paper Company. She was a long time member of Roebuck Park Baptist Church and later, Briarwood Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed volunteering at Roebuck Park in the nursery and kitchen. In addition, she loved to cook and is reputed to make the best Lemon Ice Box Pie in the history of man and unlikely to be duplicated ever again. She loved to travel with her family and church groups. She was a lifelong fan of the Crimson Tide. She was kind, charismatic and you never had to wonder long what was on her mind. Finally, she was always interested in people and wanted them to know the love of her Savior Jesus Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents James and Mary; her beloved husband Johnny, as well as her brothers Arnold, Wayne and John, and her sisters, Anne and Shirley.
She is survived by her son James, daughter-in-law Jane, and granddaughter Anna, who she adored; as well as her brother Reggie, his wife Sharon, their son Jason, her step son Johnny Lucas Jr, his son Jason and her sister-in-law Nora Russell and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Thursday, December 14, 5:00-7:00 pm at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham AL. Graveside service Friday, December 15, 10:00 am, at Forest Hill Cemetery, 431 60th Street North, Birmingham AL.
