

Billie Jannett Morgan passed away 8/23/2018 at home. She was born in 1930 in Birmingham, AL. Billie was preceded in death by her parents Lela Mae & Anthony V. Jannett III. Billie is survived by her son Michael (and Meresa) of Houston, TX and daughter Jill of Birmingham. Granddaughters Carla Casey (Clint) of Pike Road, AL and Laura Escochea (Gabe) of Richmond, TX. 5 great grand kids; Cannon, Cash, Aurea, Morgan & Mason. Except for a few years in N. and S. Carolina, she spent her life in and around Birmingham.
Billie graduated from Ensley High School. She then went to the University of Alabama and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. Later in her 50s she went back to the University of AL and earned a master’s degree in Library Science.
Billie’s teenage life revolved around school, but also helping to take care of her mother Lela who had MS. Her father Tony was off fighting in WWII and Korea. Billie was given a driver’s license at the age of 13 by the State of AL in order to care for her mother. She started at UA as a 17-year-old and finished her degree at 20. She was a proud Delta Gamma sorority member and an active alumnus throughout her life.
Following graduation Billie began working at Loveman’s Department store in Birmingham as a bridal consultant. She then worked at Sears as a buyer where she met and married Dudley E. Morgan. She became a loving stay at home mom to Michael & Jill throughout their early years. She then went back to work with Dudley at their franchise for Dunhill Personnel Systems. Due to her love of books, she returned to University of Alabama receiving a Masters in Library Science.
Afterwards she went to work for Birmingham Public Library where she worked as the department head form Circulation Services.
Billie was a founding member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She served on the vestry, ECW, choir, greeter, and was always there faithfully serving in any capacity. She loved to travel, and every summer would arrange trips with the family. Smoky Mountains, Wash. DC, Virginia, Disney and the NW Florida beaches. Some of her favorite times were spending summers at Lay Lake with family.
Billie spent most of her life serving and helping others particularly her mother & father as they battled MS and Alzheimer’s. She was a wonderful mother, loving daughter and patient spouse. Jill has lovingly cared for her mother the last 5 years of her life. The family gives Jill and everyone else who cared for Billie their greatest gratitude.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2018 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Acton Road with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
