Billy Gene Carroll

July 31, 1928March 31, 2019

B. G. "Bill" Carroll, age 90, of Trussville AL, went to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, March 31, 2019. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jane Ann Mauldin Carroll; parents M. D. and Irene Carroll; sister Mildred Carroll Foshee, and granddaughter Dana Dorn Jones. He is survived by his son, David Carroll (Rae) and daughter Linda Knopf (Jimmy); seven grandchildren: Stacey Reed (Donnie), Brandon Cain (Noel), Derrick Cain (Rene), Briana Bridges, Chancey Bridges, Konnor and Dalton Knopf; eight great-grandchildren: Jordan Bittle, Dawson Atkinson, Hunter Jones, Landon Cain, Braxton Cain, Bradleigh Cain, Emmett Cain and Harper Cain, as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and a number of lifelong friends. Born in Blountsville AL, Bill lived with his parents on their farm in Douglas AL until the family moved to Birmingham in 1943. He graduated Woodlawn High School, as a proud member of the City Championship basketball team, in 1947, then attended Howard College until his induction in the U. S. Air Force in 1950, later graduating in 1956. Bill and Jane were married in December 1950 and returned to Birmingham and Woodlawn Baptist Church following his military service. Together they served as Sunday School and Training Union leaders for the next twenty years, Bill was also ordained a deacon in 1955 and later became chairman of the church's deacon board as well as president of the Brotherhood. In 1971 they moved to Hartselle AL and established Carroll & Corum Building Supply where Bill was president until retiring in 1987. In their over twenty years in Hartselle both were active at First Baptist Church and in many community projects and activities, Bill was one of the founders of Community Bank & Trust in 1978 and served as Chairman of The Board of Directors. He was also president of the Homebuilders Association in Morgan County. In their retirement years Bill & Jane traveled the world, even after their return to Birmingham and their church home in 1993. With his construction background and experience the church's move to Liberty Park naturally found Bill on the building committee, heavily investing his time in seeing the new Liberty Park Baptist Church completed and serving the community the past twenty-five years, and leaving a lasting legacy of service to God and to his family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday 10:00-11:30 am, immediately followed by the funeral service, at The Church at Liberty Park (Liberty Park Baptist Church), 12001 Liberty Parkway, Vestavia Hills AL 35242, with burial at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East, Trussville AL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Building Fund of The Church at Liberty Park.

I loved Mr. Carroll so much! Such a fine gentle man. He reminded me so much of my own daddy. He would always kiss me on the cheek each Sunday. I will miss his sweet smile as so many will. He was such a blessing!! Praying for all of his family. May God comfort and give peace.

I was very sad to hear of Mr. Carroll's passing. I know he was a wonderful friend to both sets of my Grandparents. The Olive's and the Brown's. I have a number of fond memories chatting with him and crashing a few games of dominoes. He was a sweet man and I was always fond of him. I have thought of him more and more in the years since losing my last grandparent. He was one of many that I wish I had been able to know more than I did. His remaining friends and family will be in our prayers during this difficult time.

Much love from Austin,

Nathan Brown
