Billy Joe Green, Jr., 61, of Springville, Alabama, a devoted son and brother, dear friend, loving uncle and father and the best Pawpaw to ever walk the earth was called home to his Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. Billy Joe was surrounded by his closest family when his spirit peacefully passed from earth to heaven at Grandview Medical Center. He was met in heaven by not only his Heavenly Father, but also his earthly father, Billy Joe Green Sr., who was called home to heaven twenty-three years prior on March 24, 1998. Billy Joe was also preceded in death by his grandparents Sylvester and Lula Green of Springville, AL and Hosea and Mattie Lou Pike of Ashville, AL. Billy Joe is survived by his mother, Velma Green of Ashville, AL; brother, Johnny Green of Ashville, AL; several nieces and nephews; daughters, Elizabeth (Justin) Walker of Gallant, AL and Heather (Ben) Perkins and his grandson, Brooks Perkins of Kimberly, AL.
Billy Joe’s number one priority in life was to spend as much time as possible with Brooks, his pride and joy, the absolute light of his life. Their favorite activities to do together were play at home, shop for fishing gear at Bass Pro Shop, play games at the arcade, go out to eat and of course, fish. Billy Joe also made sure to never miss a school or church program or baseball or basketball game of Brooks’. The glowing smile, contagious laughter and sparkle in Billy Joe’s eyes were always evident when spending time with his little buddy or talking about Brooks to others.
Billy Joe worked at Birmingham Coca-Cola for forty-two years and held many different supervisor positions throughout the years in the areas of Cooler and Fountain Installation, Service Technicians, Cooler Shop Setup and Vending Machine Delivery.
Billy Joe’s favorite hobby was fishing and he enjoyed fishing with his friends in the Southern Bass Anglers Tournament Club. He served his hometown, the city of Springville, for many years in the following capacities: City Council (2000-2008), Chamber of Commerce (1996-2020), Planning Board (2008-2016), Zoning Board (2016-2021), Activities Consultant to the Mayor for over twelve years and the Original Chairman of Springfest, the city of Springville’s annual event held since the late 1990s.
To say that Billy Joe will be missed by all who knew him is putting it mildly. Billy Joe’s loss will leave a large hole in the hearts of many people. However, the legacy he leaves behind in his daughters, grandson and many others is far greater. The lessons he taught others just by being himself: do things with integrity no matter their difficulty; keep a positive outlook; work hard, play hard, love hard and never, ever complain will remain for generations.
