It is with deep love and heartfelt remembrance that the family of Bobby Glenn White announces his peaceful passing on March 12, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 4, 1942, to Roy E. White and Angella Calhoun White, Bobby lived a life defined by kindness, gentle wisdom, and quiet strength.
Bobby was a lifelong learner who found joy in reading, math puzzles, and exploring new ideas. A proud graduate of both Auburn University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, he valued education not only for himself, but also for those he served throughout his career.
He honorably served in the United States Air Force, working as a Russian translator—a role that reflected his intelligence, dedication, and sense of purpose. His calm, steady nature guided him throughout his service and throughout his life.
Bobby cherished the simple, peaceful pleasures: fishing, long walks, and the timeless worlds of Western books and movies. Known for being wonderfully mellow and easygoing, he was someone others naturally felt at ease around.
Most of Bobby’s teaching career was spent with the Alabama Department of Youth Services-Chalkville Campus, preparing students for the GED exam. He believed deeply in second chances and in the potential within every young person. His patience, compassion, and unwavering support changed the futures of many who needed someone to believe in them.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Roy White, Jr.; and his beloved wife, Mary White. He is survived by: sons: Taylor White (Lisa Kelley) and Tucker White (Melanie Herchenhahn); grandchildren: Kira White and Griffin White; stepchildren: Kelly Guston and Johnnie Guston; sisters: Wanda Quigley, Tina Malone (Bill), and Kathy Slaton (Corley); and extended family and many others who will forever remember his gentle spirit.
His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the students he encouraged, and the family he cherished.
There will be a visitation Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. – 1:50 p.m. at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery where Bobby will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Mary.
