Bonnie Saunders Buchanan Armistead went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 16, 2024. She was a member of Vestavia Hills Methodist Church. She was born June 30, 1946 to Donald Courtney Saunders and Bonnie Jewel Sawyer Saunders in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.
She graduated from Jones Valley High School in 1964 and graduated from UAB with a Masters Degree in Visual Impairment. Bonnie worked for the Jefferson County School System as a teacher for the blind and visually impaired children for many years and enjoyed her work immensely.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Donald Courtney Saunders, Jr., and her husband, Ronald Edward Buchanan. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Bobby Martin Armistead where they live in Hoover, Alabama. She is also survived by her son; Ronald Edward Buchanan, Jr., (Christy), stepson;Martin Nathaniel Armistead, stepdaughter;Suzanne Armistead Richardson (Christopher), grandchildren; Bonnie Virginia Buchanan, Hillary Claire Buchanan, Maximillian Augustus Buchanan, Emma Camp-Orr, Anderson Edward Camp, Ann Martin Richardson and Jack Armistead Richardson.
A public visitation will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 1:00pm-2:00pm in the chapel of Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, Alabama 35211 with a funeral service to follow at 2:00pm.Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Reverend Butch Williams will be officiating. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, cousin and friend and will be missed by all.
