Carolyn Florence Johnson

Carolyn Florence Johnson was born on a farm in Coosa County near Alexander City, Alabama on February 13, 1926, the youngest of nine children and died on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Her parents were Ellie E. and Florence Neighbors Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Theron H. Johnson, Isaac C. Johnson, Ellie Olin Johnson, Rev. Evan N. Johnson and by sisters: Ruby E. Johnson, Lynda J. Sellers, Voncile J. Nix and Deryl Maxine Johnson; nieces: Fran Wilson and Judy Edmiston; and one great nephew, Daniel Johnson and good friend Roy Reeves. She is survived by nephews: David Johnson and Michael Johnson; nieces: Carol Tate, Nancy Sayre, Martha McCullough, Betty Smith, Barbara Peterson, Lynda Little, Rebecca Kempson and numbers of great nieces and nephews. Carolyn attended elementary school in a three room school house and was graduated from Coosa County High School in Rockford, Alabama. She became a Christian under the ministry of Dr. Carl Giers, pastor of Hunter Street Baptist Church. Her first job was with Blue Cross Blue Shield from 1945 to 1949 until she was let to accept a job as secretary where she served from 1949 to 1971 at Hunter Street Baptist Church. Rev. Charles Bowles was pastor followed by Dr. Darold Morgan and Dr. J. C. Mitchell. She was then led to accept a job and First Baptist Church, Winter Park, Florida as Educational Assistant where Dr. J. C. Mitchell was pastor. She began in there in 1972. In 1989, she began a new phase of her life by retired and moving to Birmingham. She joined Hunter Street Baptist Church and she was privileged to do volunteer work until her health began to fail. Dr. Buddy Gray is pastor and she enjoyed keeping in touch with her large extended family. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
