Carolyn Spivey Singletary, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. She was born on November 10, 1926 to Riggs Carlton Allen and Blair “Tally” Taliaferro. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Herman Dolphus Spivey; husband, Harold Singletary; son, Herman Allen “Bubba” Spivey; son in-law, John Rabon; great grandson, Evan English; granddaughter in-law, Autumn Rabon; and son in-law of her heart, Jimmy Miller. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters, Janet Spivey Rabon and Synthia Spivey Morgan (Dr. Richard Morgan, Jr.); daughter in-law, Connie Spivey; a 2nd son of her heart, Danny Gamble; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Brown (Brian), Ami English (Jason), Jessica Bradley (Ryan), John Rabon, Leisha Knight (Binod), Melissa Jabaay (Aaron), Brittany Sell (Luke), Dr. Richard Morgan III (Sarah), Jill Morgan (fiancé’, Bradley Pritchard), Seth Spivey, and Sloan Spivey; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Carolyn was very proud to have attended Norwood Elementary School. She enjoyed having reunions with her classmates up until a few years ago. She attended Phillips High School, where she met the love of her life, Herman Spivey. Carolyn graduated from the University of Alabama and was a proud “Roll Tider”. She attended and served at Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church in Birmingham and while living in Marietta, GA, she and her husband, Harold attended Eastridge Baptist Church. They also visited Holy Family Catholic Church. However, in her heart, she was a true Southern Baptist lady.
Carolyn loved people. She enjoyed visiting with her friends in both Alabama and Georgia. She liked to attend the Lockheed Breakfasts as much as she could. Carolyn worked in the family business, Spivey Hobby & Toys, for many years.
Carolyn will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but none more than her beloved family. She was a cherished and beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was not only a wonderful mother to her children, but their best friend. Her greatest legacy is her love of the Lord, a gift she passed down to her family.
Flowers are greatly appreciated, but you may also consider making a donation in Carolyn’s memory to either Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church or Eastridge Baptist Church.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Elmwood Cemetery at 2 pm.
